(1st published on 12 December, 2017, but thought it was worth another share.  Happy holidays!)

My uncle was the first honourary Jew in my family.  When you’re a pasta fed kid growing up in Nonantum where the streets are painted red, white, and green, and you and all your friends have at least one Anthony, Vincent, and Marie at home, walking through town can be a journey to a different culture.  Uncle Robby was 10 when he discovered matzo ball soup.  He’d ride his bike after supper and get a double dose of home-made nourishment from his new pals.  That bike was the only thing dividing him from chunky and fatso those years.  And it was his connection to a new world.

November is NaNoWriMo, aka National Novel Writing Month.  Three of my books were refined by taking this writing challenge of completing a novel from start to finish in ONE MONTH.  Books 1 and 2 of the "Watch City" trilogy, "Waltham Watch" and "Subton Switch" were not started from scratch during the last two Novembers, but abundant progress was made in piecing the plots together.

Less than a month ago I published my 11th book (my 5th steampunk related book), "Steampunk Leap Year."   I was going to take a small break after writing and publishing three books in 2019.  But, I caught the NaNoWriMo bug and here I am, scribbling away at a brand new book, unlike anything I have written before...

Captive and alone, a fiery teen devises an escape that will change her life. What she discovers is mysterious, perhaps miraculous - an encounter that connects the past, present, and future in a timeless bind. The “Watch City” trilogy continues in “Subton Switch,” creating a testament of the power within us to change ourselves, and the world.

Today is Marathon Monday, a celebration of Patriots' Day, and a proud exhibition of what it means to be Boston Strong.  The Red Sox play with a crowd of spectacularly enthused fans, charged up by the spirit of the day.  When the game is over, Fenway spills out into Kenmore Square to add their voices, rooting on the marathoners crossing the finish line.

The Boston Marathon began in 1897 as a tribute to the first Olympic marathon the previous summer.  It is the longest running marathon in history.  Half a million spectators will line the route with cheers, encouragement, and awe.

Participants come from all walks of life from around the world.  The local community spreads to a...

I have had artists bestow their feelings upon me before.  One young gent presented me with a watercolour he had created of my youthful summertime beach.  Another admirer gifted a charcoal portrait of me.  In the musical days of my teens, a boyfriend wrote and performed a song for me.  Sadly the painting and sketch have disappeared from my collection, and the song was forgotten almost immediately.   But never has anyone written a poem for me. Until now.

To have a poet whose work enthralls you, a man you love and respect, write in his own words what he sees when he looks at you, is soul encompassing.  He presented the poem from the linin...

"O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light."

Most of us are familiar with this refrain from the popular Christmas carol, "We Three Kings."  This song has always fascinated me.  Its lullaby-like tune belies the bittersweet message in the lyrics.  This stanza expresses hope, faith that a star will lead the three exotic astrologers to the epic horoscope.

The imagery of a humble animal stable highlighted by a brilliant star is depicted on many a mantle during the Christian celebration of Advent, the days leading up to Christmas.  A smiling baby with arms open in an expression of love, offeri...

Readers, I have a treasure trove of new books to dig into!  I was ECSTATIC to meet engaging authors at the 2018 New England Authors Expo.  I also was thrilled to catch up with so many creative talents within the literary field, such as librarians, bookstore owners, puppet makers, artists, cover designers, models, and TV and radio hosts.  This event ROCKED!

If you are an indie author, expos and tours such as these are PIVOTAL for your career!  Wanna branch out, learn from your peers, and flourish in your craft?  Network with your peeps!  I had so much fun at this event, and the connections I made are invaluable.

Five panels throughout the day showcased the brillian...

Where to begin?  This is the question countless creative minds become overwhelmed with.  Strains of storylines and magically charismatic characters await in the limbo.

In my experience as an indie author, I have investigated the ways of pantsers and plotters; of pen on paper free-form flowing world builders and meticulous outliners.  As many writers as there are, there are an equal number of methods for preparing and creating a work in progress.

Currently, my WIP is a steampunk trilogy about a renowned inventor on a personal quest who is sidetracked when an evil force attacks the city. She encounters friends and foes, traipses through romance, and l...

School shooting.  Suicide.  Despair.  Grief.  There is no relief.  There is no beginning; no end.  Logic has no voice here.  Solutions refuse to redeem themselves in shiny reflections of hope and progress.  Existing is the only way to survive.  Living is intolerable to death.

I Am!

I am—yet what I am none cares or knows;

My friends forsake me like a memory lost:

I am the self-consumer of my woes—

They rise and vanish in oblivious host,

Like shadows in love’s frenzied stifled throes

And yet I am, and live—like vapours tossed

Into the nothingness of scorn and noise,

Into the living sea of waking dreams,

Where there is neither sense o...
